I didn’t come by my reptilian ways all by myself. I had help. Lots of it.
This is one of those gifts that keeps on giving. Reptiles beget reptiles, (like, they give birth to them) and experientially (such as, in school). I emerged from a long line of folks with well-crafted reptilian responses. Some days I tell myself that my wide-ranging experience and knowledge make me more clever. On my more clear days, I can see that my cleverness merely gives me capacity to create new well-crafted reptilian responses. Meaning, I’m really good at disguising my defenses… primarily from myself.
